Nigel Cabourn designs outerwear collection for Henri Lloyd

Published

Two British outerwear brands have teamed up to produce a collection of reimagined vintage classics. Fashion designer Nigel Cabourn, whose vintage military and workwear collections have carved out a niche in men’s streetwear, is helping take the reborn Henri Lloyd brand into the future.

The collaboration studies Henri Lloyd’s original 1960s and 70s collections, putting the emphasis on heritage as the brand moves forward under new leadership.

There are deck jackets, dungarees, sweatshirts and polo shirts come in a rich colour palette of navy blue, red, off-white and apple green. A range of crossbody bags in four colourways completes the collection.

“There aren’t many British brands I’d want to do collaborations with. It has to be someone who has a history, and not just any old history,” said Cabourn.

“When we first started talking and I got to see the vintage of Henri-Lloyd, I was completely amazed by how great it all looked. I mean, it’s not just a piece here or there, it’s massive is what it is. So, I had the vintage pieces I wanted to work with shipped to Newcastle, and I started to look at them in detail. What details! I found an H, or rather half an H, in Velcro! Henri-Lloyd must have been the first brand to use Velcro in clothing!”

Since relaunching under the ownership of a group of investors in 2018, Henri Lloyd has been trying to find its way back to the top of the nautical clothing market.

The Nigel Cabourn x Henri Lloyd range is available to purchase online.
