Kicking off a six-month countdown to the opening of its new flagship in Hudson Yards, Dallas-based retailer Neiman Marcus launched the 92nd edition of its traditional Christmas Book on Friday, unveiling its Fantasy Gifts for 2018.
This year’s 275-page Christmas Book features more than 823 holiday gifts, most of which are under $250, with a number of items under $20. Notable gifts in the book include a $658 Chiara Ferragni skateboard, an exclusive Locomocean neon sign priced at $60 and a TRNDlabs Razor drone which retails for $129.
The most expensive item in the 2018 Christmas Book is the 74-foot Neiman Marcus Edition Serenity Solar Yacht, which is one of this year’s eight Fantasy Gifts and is priced at $7.1 million.
2018’s Fantasy Gifts also include a range of experiences such as a “Wonders & Wellness” experience in the Indian Subcontinent ($630,000) offered through luxury bespoke travel agency Black Tomato; a “Tennis Majors” experience ($555,000) giving the recipient and one guest unprecedented access to all four tennis majors in Paris, London, New York and Melbourne, as a guest of US Open champion Sloane Stephens; and a three-day Las Vegas-based “Secret Agent” experience ($315,000) for adrenaline junkies.
For $250,000, shoppers can give the Fantasy Gift of a Vice or Virtue Clubhouse courtesy of Studio Shed and Christina Simon, while $325,000 will buy a custom in-home candy bar stocked with Sugarfina candy.
Danish sculptor, Bjørn Okholm Skaarup, perhaps best known for his whimsical Hippo Ballerina outside NYC’s Lincoln Center, will create a unique larger-than-life bronze-cast animal sculpture for one gift recipient, who will be flown out to the artist’s foundry in Florence, Italy to discuss the piece.
The final Fantasy Gift involves a collaborative design session with four-time Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, who will then create a one-of-a-kind outfit for the gift recipient inspired by her most recent project Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. This one-off experience is priced at $300,000, $10,000 of which will be donated to J.K. Rowling’s LUMOS Foundation, which seeks to put an end to the institutionalization of children around the world.
Another $10,000 will go to The Heart of Neiman Marcus Foundation, along with a portion of the proceeds from each of the other Fantasy Gifts. The foundation aims to bring art-enriching experiences to young people across the US and Neiman Marcus has also made a $750,000 financial commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America over a three-year period.
To launch this year’s Fantasy Gifts, Neiman Marcus has created “1907 Fantasy Lane” an immersive, Instagram-friendly experience at New York art gallery Affirmation Arts. The experience features a series of household rooms transformed to represent each of the eight gifts, including a Fantastic Beasts-themed master closet conceived by Atwood, and a child’s room that pays homage to sailing.
“We are thrilled to debut this season's Fantasy Gifts just blocks from our future Neiman Marcus store at Hudson Yards,” said Neiman Marcus president and CEO Jim Gold in a release. “It is a joy for us to continue this time-honored holiday tradition of offering gifts and experiences that capture the imagination of our wonderful customers.”
