Mugler appoints Casey Cadwallader as new Creative Director

Mugler turns over a new leaf. The French label owned by the Clarins Fragrance Group has recently appointed Casey Cadwallader as its new Creative Director for fashion. The US designer, who started in his new role on 1st December, was chosen "for his contemporary vision of the brand," said Mugler's President Sandrine Groslier in press release.

"His determination, and his unique sensibility for Mugler's artistic and experimental heritage will allows us to pursue the label's revitalization in the long term," added Groslier. In the last four years, the French label has in fact embarked on a relaunch journey under the creative supervision, until now, of David Koma.

The young London-based designer of Georgian origin was hired as Creative Director at the end of 2013, replacing Nicola Formichetti, chiefly to give new impulse to Mugler's women's ready-to-wear collections. He has now left the label, to focus on developing his own brand in London.

Casey Cadwallader, 37, has a 15-year-plus experience on the design teams of several fashion labels. After studying architecture at Cornell University, in New York state, he turned to fashion, making his first steps at Marc Jacobs.

He then worked as designer specialising in womenswear for a succession of labels, among them Narciso Rodriguez, where he notably was Creative Director for ready-to-wear and accessories, Loewe and more recently Acne Studios, where he was in charge of design for women's pre-collections. Cadwallader will première at Mugler with the Autumn/Winter 2018-19 collection.
