Muge Erderik Dogan takes over as president of Amazon Fashion

Published
Mar 5, 2021

Muge Erderik Dogan has been named as president of Amazon Fashion. The executive, who led the company’s beauty, grooming and personal care category from 2014 to 2017, succeeds Christine Beauchamp, who has served as head of the American e-commerce giant’s fashion business since 2017.

Dogan has therefore taken over responsibility for Amazon’s global fashion operations, while Beauchamp has been promoted to the head of the platform’s consumer categories in North America.

Since her stint as general manager and director of beauty, grooming and personal care, Dogan, who has been with Amazon since 2007, has served as director and technical advisor for Amazon North America retail, and, most recently, as VP for worldwide last mile delivery and pick-up – business, tech, operations.

Prior to joining Amazon, the executive completed a doctorate degree in mathematical modelling and optimization at Carnegie Mellon University, where, according to her LinkedIn profile, her research focused on simultaneous planning and scheduling of continuous and batch operated plants.

She also holds BS and MS degrees in chemical engineering from Istanbul’s Bosphorous University.

“I am looking forward to building upon the incredible work that has been done in this dynamic category under the leadership of Christine Beauchamp, and eager to leverage her guidance along with my experience in retail, technology and innovation,” Dogan told WWD.

Having firmly established itself as the U.S.’s largest fashion retailer over the past few years, Amazon has recently focused its attention on the luxury category, launching its Luxury Stores platform at the end of 2020.

The digital giant is now seeking to attract designer brands to its new venture in order to compete with rival luxury platforms, such as Net-A-Porter and Farfetch. Dogan, who has been successful in bringing in new labels for other categories at Amazon, will no doubt be expected to use her skills to similar effect in the company’s fashion business.

Amazon has continued to make strong growth during the Covid-19 pandemic, having benefitted from consumers’ increased focus on digital shopping. The company reported net sales of $280.5 billion in 2020, up 20% year over year, while its annual net income totaled $11.6 billion, or $23.01 per diluted share.
