London's Icon Outlet reopens after storm damage

One month and one day on, South London’s Icon Outlet at the O2 mall has begun reopening following storm damage.

South London's Icon Outlet mall

Battered by Storm Eunice in February, the premium outlet shopping destination is reopening in stages after extensive damage to the wider venue's famous 02 roof had to be repaired.

The mall, which is part of the O2 Entertainment District situated on the Greenwich peninsular, has begun reopening after the central arena returned to staging events and concerts late last month.

The owners confirmed many of its stores, including Calvin Klein, Gant, Tommy Hilfiger, Joseph, Ted Baker, Kurt Geiger and Clarins have reopened and are now welcoming visitors.

Janine Constantin-Russell, managing director of The O2 Entertainment District and Icon Outlet said: “We have worked incredibly hard to ensure our destination is safe and secure for customers, whilst also continuing to deliver an outstanding retail and leisure experience.

“Although a small part of Icon Outlet will remain closed for the time being, we are extremely proud to have bounced back so quickly from Storm Eunice and are confident we can quickly match and exceed the strong growth in sales experienced prior to the incident.”

Up until the storm damage, the South London shopping destination had said it was looking forward to a successful 2022 after “celebrating strong results in 2021” achieved “across the key metrics of performance, new brand signings and openings, and consumer engagement”.

Since reopening last April following lockdowns, Icon Outlet had seen an increase of 5% like-for-like sales compared to 2019 as well as weekly average sales up 17.5%.
