Liberty London has named a new finance chief with Rob Unsworth, who was most recently finance director of Debenhams Retail, joining the heritage department store as its CFO.

Unsworth has over 20 years of UK and International retail experience having held a number of senior roles in commercial and operational finance.

“With a strong foundation of its historically significant central London flagship store and a brand that is treasured by both its customers and colleagues, there is significant potential to grow the Liberty London retail, fabric and wholesale businesses worldwide,” he said of his new job.

Adil Mehboob-Khan, who was named as Liberty’s CEO last month, added: “With Rob’s appointment, we further strengthen the management team with a high-profile expert from retail and finance. His hands-on approach, team-building skills and financial acumen will help support the company in achieving its full potential.”

The 143-year-old business is one of the most unique of London’s well-known department stores and has specialised in recent periods in quirky collaborations and developments that underscore its points of difference from its rivals on Regent Street and nearby Oxford Street.

This month, for instance, it has has created a new space in its London store dedicated to a new Made in India home collection. Last month it hosted a talk by Katharine Hamnett as it’s the exclusive physical store stockist for her comeback collections. And in January, it took part in the Regent Street well-being campaign.
