HanesBrands names interim chief financial officer

Published

North Carolina-based HanesBrands has promoted M. Scott Lewis, its current chief accounting officer and controller, to the role of interim chief financial officer, effective January 9, 2020.

A certified public accountant, Lewis has served as chief accounting officer and controller since May 2015. He first joined HanesBrands in 2006, and has held a variety of roles within the company’s accounting, reporting and tax functions departments, including vice president of tax and vice president of financial reporting and accounting.

Prior to joining HanesBrands, Lewis served as a senior manager at KPMG, a New York-based financial services company.

“We have a very strong global finance organization,” said Gerald W. Evans Jr., Hanes chief executive officer. “[Lewis] is an accomplished finance professional well versed with our company and strategies. He will provide essential leadership during this transition.”

The company’s previous CFO, Barry Hytinen, exited the role in December 2019 in order to take on a similar position with Iron Mountain, a Boston-based storage and information management services company. He began the role in 2017.

Executive recruiting specialist Crist|Kolder Associates is aiding the company in finding a permanent CFO. HanesBrands said it is considering both internal and external candidates with significant experience and accomplishments in global strategy, finance, capital management, and operations support.

In November of 2019, the company reported a slight increase in third quarter revenues thanks largely to the success of its Champion brand, which is reportedly approaching $2 billion in annual sales.

HanesBrands’ total net sales for the third quarter ended September 28, 2019, were $1.87 billion, up 1% (2% in constant currencies) from the $1.85 billion reported by the company in the prior-year period.
