Google France funds Artificial Intelligence professorship at Parisian university

On Thursday, Google France and the École Polytechnique, one of the most prestigious French universities and research institutions, announced the launch next September of an international Artificial Intelligence professorship funded by Google France.

The course is called 'Artificial Intelligence & Visual Computing' and will work with a scholarship programme to attract promising applicants. Google France will offer internships to École Polytechnique students, as indicated in the press release.

The announcement coincided with the presentation by French President Emmanuel Macron of the country's national artificial intelligence strategy, notably based on research led by French mathematician and MP Cédric Villani.

“By opening in Paris our research centre on artificial intelligence, the third in the world, we signal our willingness to collaborate with the French scientific eco-system,” said Sébastien Missoffe, General Manager of Google France.

According to Marie-Paule Cani, a professor at the École Polytechnique, “this professorship will allow us to tap French excellence in research-led education and in combined IT and mathematical expertise, fostering a generation of young talents who will create tomorrow's digital professions.”
