Eighty-five-year-old Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani will be recognised with the Outstanding Achievement Award at this year’s Fashion Awards organised by the British Fashion Council.

Giorgio Armani is the CEO and general manager of the Armani group - Giorgio Armani

He follows Miuccia Prada, Ralph Lauren, Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour and Manolo Blahnik in receiving the prize, which recognises his creativity and outstanding contribution to the global fashion industry.

The chairman and CEO of the Armani Group will receive the accolade at The Fashion Awards 2019, taking place on Monday 2 December at the Royal Albert Hall in London

Caroline Rush, BFC chief executive, commented: “We are thrilled to be honouring Giorgio Armani with the Outstanding Achievement Award. With more than four decades in the business, Mr Armani’s contribution to the fashion industry is indeed outstanding. Renowned for his timeless vision of style and the brands’ ability to stay relevant, he has led the way where other brands have followed. We look forward to celebrating with him in London in December.”

Giorgio Armani founded is company in 1975 and continues to be involved in all strategic decisions concerning style and design. He is regarded as the most successful designer of Italian origin, overseeing the growth of his Armani label from a ready-to-wear brand to a luxury fashion empire with three brands: Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, and A/X Armani Exchange.

His fashion philosophy has translated into extensive work beyond the fashion industry, with the Italian-born designing costumes for over 200 films, the official uniform for the English football team in 2006, and uniforms for the Italian Olympic and Paralympic teams since 2012. The designer released his first fragrance in 1982 and his first home collection in 2000. In 2005 he launched his Haute Couture collection in Paris, and in 2010 he entered the hospitality sector with his first Armani/Hotel in Dubai. A second hotel followed in Milan in 2011.

In 2015, Armani marked the 40th anniversary of his brand with the opening of the Armani/Silos exhibition and educational space in Milan, dedicated to showcasing Armani creations and temporary art exhibitions.

Finally, the Giorgio Armani Foundation, founded in 2016, implements projects of public and social interest.
