Ex-Vogue editors Alexandra Schulman, Fiona Golfar working on fashion TV show

Published

A British monthly fashion magazine, and its group of staff including photographers, stylists, journalists, PRs and designers, will become the focal point of a new major drama series conceived by former British Vogue editors Alexandra Shulman and Fiona Golfar and production company Bad Wolf.

Alexandra Shulman was editor-in-chief of British Vogue until last year - Conde Nast

‘Gold Dust Nation’ will draw from Shulman and Golfar’s experience working as editor-in-chief and editor-at-large at Vogue to follow the lives of a collection of characters working in an internationally famous fashion magazine in the 90s.

The drama series will be set in a time when London reemerged as a major fashion hub, and will touch on topics such as the rise of the ‘heroin chic’ look and celebrity culture, the globalisation of the fashion industry and the introduction of the digital era.

Schulman’s new venture comes after she stepped down as editor-in-chief of British Vogue in 2017 after 25 years in the job. She was replaced by Edward Enninful, who has taken the publication on a new direction and embraced a more diverse philosophy.

Commenting on the drama series, Shulman said:  “It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to bring to life the realities of the world of fashion publishing in a series that will have total authenticity.  We will be able to showcase the real issues and real stories that occur when you combine huge creativity with human emotions and dilemmas set in a backdrop of the changing times of recent history.”

Fiona Golfar added: “At the heart of it our show is about a group of people finding their place in this world of perceived glamour. It is a show about love and loyalty, treachery and creativity, beauty and body image. Can these co-exist when there is so much at stake in the highly charged world of fashion magazines? Between us Alexandra and I have seen it all, from the boardroom to the bedroom, there is never a dull moment in the world of fashion.”

Bad Wolf recently produced the hit Sky series A Discovery of Witches and is currently filming the first of two seasons of His Dark Materials for the BBC and HBO.
