Dutch e-commerce sector launches sustainable delivery calculation tool

Published

The Dutch e-commerce sector has launched Bewust Bezorgd (Consciously Delivered), a sustainable calculation tool that helps online stores understand the carbon dioxide impact of parcel delivery and the effects of reductions measures.

The tool was developed by Thuiswinkel; mobility company Connekt and logistics company Topsector Logistiek in collaboration with e-tailers Bol.com, Wehkamp, Coolblue and Otto, as well as parcel carriers PostNL, DHL and Dynalogic.

The Dutch e-commerce sector said that is has set itself the target of reducing the carbon dioxide emissions of the logistics operation by half by 2025 compared to 2018.

By launching Bewust Bezorgd, the Dutch e-commerce sector wants to make the impact of reduction measures measurable, so that the climate objectives as set out in the Dutch National Climate Agreement can be met. The chairman of the Climate Council, Ed Nijpels, said of Bewust Bezorgd: “It's great to see that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand in the [e-commerce] sector.”

Wijnand Jongen, director at Thuiswinkel, said: “We are proud that we have been able to develop this together as a sector. The model ensures that all companies measure emissions in the same way. Every online store chooses its own way to make its own company more sustainable, but its effects are measured in the same way, which creates clarity and transparency.”

Bewust Bezorgd will be presented on Wednesday 23 January during the Dutch e-commerce trade event Webwinkel Vakdagen. Following the presentation, interested companies will be able to register for participation in Bewust Bezorgd.
