Boots' shift to digital sees 300 HQ jobs culled

Published

Citing “changing consumer behaviours” during the coronavirus pandemic, Boots on Friday announced major job cuts at its head office operations.

The UK health & beauty retail giant is to cut 300 jobs across various functions at its Nottingham headquarters. They will be made across a range of divisions and senior levels, affecting 10% of the workforce there. Store roles will be unaffected.

The latest changes are part of Boots’ ongoing shift to invest in its digital business.

Boots UK CEO Sebastian James said: “The events of the last year have changed consumer behaviours forever and we must adapt our business to meet these new needs. This means investing in our digital business, serving customers more efficiently and, above all, becoming much swifter and more agile.

“I am acutely aware that this structural change will be difficult for our amazing team in Nottingham and we will do everything we can to make sure that we support and help anybody who is affected.”

The latest changes come just weeks after the departure of two key executives at Boots – chief operating officer Tracey Clements and vice president of beauty and gifting Joanna Rogers.
