Arnotts to get makeover

Selfridges Group moves forward with its transformation of Dublin’s oldest department store Arnotts with a new investment of €4m to refurbish the accessories and beauty hall.

The owner of Arnotts since 2015 invested €2.5m on capital projects last year as part of plans to modernise the heritage department store.

The interior layout has been redesigned, relocating women’s footwear from the ground floor to the first to bring the department closer to women’s ready-to-wear.

The Sunday Independent reports that the next step will be to overhaul the store’s accessories and beauty hall, with the €4m investment also being used to introduce new premium brands such as Michael Kors as well as boosting Arnotts’ online presence and enhancing its IT infrastructure.

"We have already made considerable progress in our refurbishment programme, which includes the newly-located and beautifully designed Shoe Gallery, and the introduction of many new exciting brands," said Arnotts managing director Donald McDonald, to the Sunday Times.

"This new injection of capital will not only continue to invigorate our physical stores and transform our online presence, but also upgrade our IT capabilities, providing customers with a seamless and engaging experience across all our platforms.”

Arnotts is part of a portfolio of upmarket department stores, which also incorporates Brown Thomas in Ireland, Selfridges in the UK, Holt Renfrew in Canada and de Bijenkorf in the Netherlands.

When Selfridges Group acquired the Dublin department store in 2015, it said its priority would be to build on the legacy of the brand while enhancing the customer experience and cherishing the store’s ‘unique heritage’.

Arnotts is also gearing up to launch an improved and redesigned website.
