Adidas CEO says costs pressures could intensify

March 2 - German sporting goods company Adidas sees pressure on margins beyond 2011 if the pace of raw material price rises does not abate, its CEO said on Wednesday.

"Cotton prices almost doubled last year and are still rising sharply, up over 20 percent already in 2011," Herbert Hainer said after the company published record sales for 2010.

"If input costs continue to rise at such a pace, then the challenge will undoubtedly intensify and lead to further margin pressure for our industry beyond 2011."

Adidas is aiming for an 11 percent operating margin by 2015 and earlier on Wednesday forecast a 2011 margin of 7.5-8.0 percent, compared with 7.5 percent for 2010, as rising raw material costs bite.
