Milano Unica visitor numbers down on last year

The 23rd edition of Milano Unica, which took place September 6 to 8 in Milan, welcomed more than 6000 companies and 442 exhibitors through its doors, compared to 6,322 firms and 404 exhibitors last year, said show organisers. With numbers slightly down, the shift reflects a change in trade show format and layout.

Milano Unica organisers said it was a successful edition - Milano Unica ph Erdna

Marking the latest in textile and accessory collections for autumn/winter 2017-18, the recent Italian fair strategically relocated, leaving the city of Milan for the Rho exhibition park, a facility more in tune with the event's new and improved format.

"The new, more rigorous, invitation-based selection criteria, that put a stronger focus on buyers than on other types of visitors, invalidates any direct comparisons with the past September 2015 edition," commented president Ercole Botto Poala, in a statement.

"However, the general opinion that I heard most frequently expressed is that the search for quality led to improved results also in terms of the number of contacts established," added Poala.

“We will take stock of the situation with an in-depth analysis, considering also all the organisational aspects, but, given the broad consensus and appreciation that we have received, I can say that we have successfully passed the test relative to the move to the new Rho fairgrounds, along with the revision of our proposal," affirmed general manager, Massimo Mosiello.

Another important deadline now awaits trade show organisers: from now until the end of September, they must decide on whether to change the dates and anticipate their July and September schedule.

The next edition of Milano Unica is slated for February 1 to 3, 2017 in Milan for the presentation of spring/summer 2018 collections, while the 10th Chinese edition will take place October 11 to 13 in Shanghai.
