Dutch footwear retailer vanHaren announced today that its revenue has increased by 6 percent over the year 2017. With this growth, the retailer continues to be the market leader in the Dutch footwear industry.

In 2017, vanHaren’s revenue reached €190.2 million, which is a record according to the retailer that noted a revenue of €179 million a year earlier. In total, the fashion chain sold 6.9 million pairs of shoes in 2017, a +0.6 percent increase. VanHaren said that it benefits from global partnerships with brands such as Nike, Adidas and Puma, which they are able to offer inexpensive because of ‘buying in large quantities'.

Krein Bons, CEO at vanHaren said in a press statement: “We have amply achieved our target. The fact that we have been able to increase our turnover for years in a row indicates that the consumer knows how to find vanHaren.”

The 89-year-old company will continue to expand in the Netherlands. The chain has plans to open three new stores this year, while eight existing stores will expand. Earlier this month vanHaren revealed a 800 m2 branch at the Hoog Catharijne mall in Utrecht. According to Bons, the further growth is part of the brand’s growth strategy, whereby the retailer aims to optimize the shopping experience by presenting the complete collection in every store.

In addition to the positive results and further expansion in the Netherlands, vanHaren said that it plans to open additional stores in Belgium. In 2017, the retailer debuted on the Belgian market and opened its first five branches as well as a web shop. In 2018, vanHaren will open 11 new stores in the country.

VanHaren is part of the German company Deichmann Group, which recorded a revenue of €5.8 million in 2017, a 5.9 percent growth compared to 2016. Deichmann Group operates in 25 European countries as well as the USA and is the market leader in Germany and Europe. In 2017, the footwear giant operated a total of 3,989 stores, 36 online shops and 39,564 employees. At the end of 2017, vanHaren contributed 143 stores and 1,467 employees.
