Burberry's "Here We Are" photography retrospective goes to Paris

Burberry’s "Here We Are" photography exhibition will be staged in Paris from 26th January to 4th February, marking perhaps one of the last signature moments of the Christopher Bailey era at the British luxury label’s. Bailey has been the Creative Director (lately Chief Creative Officer) of Burberry for 17 years, and its President for the last three, but at the end of October the label announced he will step down in March 2018.

 
The itinerant photography exhibition was first featured at London's Session House "as a celebration of the latest September collection," then in Hong Kong in early November, and its Parisian venue will be the former premises of the Libération newspaper, at 11, rue Béranger.
 
"Here We Are" features some 90 photography works, an exploration of British life, character and identity curated by Christopher Bailey with Lucy Kumara Moore, writer and director of London's cult fashion and photography bookshop Claire de Rouen, and British photographer Alasdair McLellan.

Among the lens royalty on show, Janette Beckman, Jane Brown, Martin Parr, Jo Spence and, exclusively for Paris, Shirley Baker, Ken Russell, Colin Jones and Daniel Meadows, with photographs whose "spirit [is] sometimes ironic, sometimes tender, always truthful," and which inspired Christopher Bailey throughout his career and for his last collection.

 
"Here We Are" will also showcase pictures by Alasdair McLellan, a former collaborator of Burberry's, and a series of artistic prints and clips by Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy - who last September signed an eight-item capsule collection with Burberry consisting of trench coats, bomber jackets, hats and scarves - which featured on his and Burberry's catwalk shows.
 
The collaboration will be presented alongside Burberry's Spring/Summer 2018 collection, making up the exhibition's second section, echoing the photography works and providing a multi-dimensional representation of the British label's sources of inspirations.
